12 noon – 2 pm (or so)
Ceremony will be followed by an outdoor lunch.

After the ceremony and lunch, we invite you to join us for additional visiting on the nearby public North Star Beach on Upper Newport Bay next to the Newport Aquatic Center. We will have some pop-up tents on the beach at the Back Bay. You may change into beach-wear at NAC if you’d like.

A word on health and safety regarding Covid-19
The room where we will meet to celebrate Joan’s life is a large interior space accessed by 2 large roll-up doors; both will be kept partially open to maintain ample ventilation during the ceremony.
Lunch will be served and eaten outdoors. Newport Aquatic Center has two groups of picnic-style tables in covered, open-air setting.
We will provide some KN95 masks for attendees if you arrive without a mask and decide you’d prefer to wear one. We’ll also have hand sanitizer.
While Joan’s children hold differing views on masks & vaccines, we all believe this event honoring Joan shall reflect her wide-open welcome to all. We offer this information about the venue to help friends and family make plans, and so that you feel comfortable and prepared.
Zoom / virtual memorial
We are working with the NAC to connect to their internet in order to hold a Zoom event. Fingers crossed we can address all the tech gremlins ahead of time. Won’t make it in person, but will attend by remote? Please register for zoom memorial.
We will be creating an audio and video recording of the ceremony to share with others at a later date. If the internet does not connect, that’s our back up plan.

June 2020 (15 months ago): We were hoping to have a Celebration of Life for Joan B Kitchens in July. But ah Covid, Covid. sigh. We are now thinking that we will be honoring our mother in early September. We will post news and updates about a memorial gathering here.
